Talifans and Salutations

Well, the last week has been an experience and a half, and not one I'd like to go through again in a hurry. Glad it is over essentially.

The good - delivered the midway on Slaine to my editor and got some very nice words back, so I am obviously on a track he likes.

The better - just signed a contract with Big Finish/BBC to edit a new Dr Who anthology, number 21 in their long running series. This is a massive honour for a Whovian like myself. The roster of writers is shaping up to be something rather special, so, watch this space.

The best - may well have sold a dream novel in the US. Can't say much right now as nothing is official but I have been walking around with a smile the size of Kong's for a wee while now.

The not so good - or the talifans. The internet is a curious beast. It offers so much in terms of interaction with readers, and with Inheritance having just hit the streets I have been very interested in feedback and discussion with readers. If only it were that simple. See there are a breed of folks out there who take delight in tearing down things, more than they would ever take in reading them, for sure. I've spent a large part of the week discussing things with my editor, Kevin J Anderson and Stel Pavlou. Kevin and Stel are good friends who have been through the wringer and welcomed me into the club that is the talifan. The result of all the talking? I'm curtailing my presence on certain messageboards and concentrating on the important part, the writing. I'll still drop by the fan site the guys at the BL boards made, to answer questions, but other than that, I am taking a well deserved break to concentrate on the books...
